ELUSIVE CON – 2023 Bay Colt by Charlatan out of Elusive Pearl (Medaglia d’Oro) – Kentucky Bred
Elusive Con is stunning bay colt that stands right at 16 hands with a beautifully balanced & correct frame. He breezed very nicely at the OBS June sale, going an 1/8th of a mile in 10.1 seconds with a nice gallop out. He did this after losing his rider and basically working 3 furlongs in the wrong direction right before he was set to go. The outriders corralled him after he ran off the 3 furlongs, reunited him with his rider and then he went straight off and worked the official 1/8th in 10.1 to make it all the more impressive.
Elusive Con is by the super exciting freshman stallion CHARLATAN. Charlatan earned $4,047,200 across a brief but dominant career with a record of 5 starts, 4 wins—highlighted by Grade 1 triumphs in the Arkansas Derby (by six lengths) and the Malibu Stakes (by 4½ lengths)—and runner-up in the $20 million Saudi Cup . He descends from champion sire Speightstown and is out of Authenticity, a Breeders’ Cup Distaff–placed mare , blending raw speed with stamina.
Retiring to stud in 2022 at Hill ’n’ Dale’s prestigious Xalapa complex in Kentucky, Charlatan’s first crop has been sensational. His yearlings have fetched up to $1.5 million, with an average sale price of about $255,000–$287,000, making him a leading freshman sire by median and average .
Described by Hill ’n’ Dale and industry insiders as “one of the most perfect physical specimens to come to stud in recent times,” Charlatan combines size, substance, balance, and athletic brilliance—traits highly sought after in breeding. He won races in spectacular fashion at distances from 6 furlongs to 1 1/8 miles.
With a strong first crop proving his commercial and athletic promise, Charlatan’s $50,000 stud fee reflects his ability to transmit elite physical attributes, speed, and race performance. His early results set him apart as a rising source of high-quality, fast, and athletic equine talent. Some highlights for Charlatan:
